About city

Kotor is a town and municipality on the shore of the Bay of Kotor in Montenegro. The city has about 1,333 inhabitants, and the municipality of Kotor 23,000 inhabitants (2003).

The old Mediterranean port of Kotor, surrounded by impressive city walls, is very well preserved and is under the protection of UNESCO, as a world cultural heritage. Between 1420-1797, Kotor and its surroundings belonged to Venice, so the Venetian influence left its mark on the city's architecture. The Bay of Kotor (Boka Kotorska) is one of the deepest and longest bays on the Adriatic Sea, so it is often called the southernmost fjord in Europe. The cliffs of Orjen and Lovćen that cover the city represent one of the most magnificent landscapes in the Mediterranean.

In recent years, an increasing number of tourists are attracted by the natural beauty of the Bay of Kotor and the old town of Kotor itself.
